A great time was had by all at the #warhorseeventseries this past weekend at the #carolinahorsepark by our Victory Hill Farm team💕💫! Thank you so much to Sarah Crevar Thomas, Margaret Crevar and Mark Donovan and the rest of the organizing committee there for doing a great job as always, and big congrats to Alison Eyth and Bella Chloe for winning the Novice division B, Jadyn Lee and Apollo for winning their Starter combined test, Claire Nestor and Jaxon for finishing 4th in Jr. Beginner Novice, Catherine Paschal and Riptide for completing their first Starter Horse Trials, Alex Anderson and newly minted “event pony” Wishbone for her 6th place in her first Green as Grass HTs., and finally several pats to my horse Obi-1 for his 5th place in the Novice division A. I was very happy that he actually came out of the box and felt like he knew his job which was fun, covered ground well with no deviations in stadium, and only did a few tiny crow hops instead of doing a full on helicopter imitation on his way by the judge’s vehicle in dressage 😂 #ottbsofinstagram. Special thanks to the moms and dads who were invaluable support onsite: Natalie Sheier, Kristin Lee, Richard Paschal, and Dr. Chad Anderson. Thanks also go to Lisa Kim, Hannah McDiarmid, Shelly Ives, and Sarah Sievers who helped get everyone out to where they needed to go, stay hydrated and extra moral support, plus special thanks to Brie Tiffany for her help over show jumps, and the rest of our helpers at and riders at home (Alyssa Davis, Ren Spake, and Reese Earle) without which this would not be possible!

And my last post from the first day (actually the rider’s first day on these horses in this division as the competition actually started Thurs and this is from Friday) is of William Coleman riding “Chin Tonic” who is a pretty amazing horse who recently won at the FEI 4 * Carolina International in my current home state of NC. I am posting his warm up pattern and most of his test to show the value and purpose of riding all of that counter canter in the warm up. The 5 star test has challenging sequence where you have to ride extended canter on the full diagonal to collected canter through the corner and then make your flying change at A. The horse has to be supple both longitudinally and very balanced to perform that well, not to mention on the same page as the rider (some would call this obedient but it is more than that), which will also be reflected in their final collective mark, which is now whittled down to a single score for Harmony. There were several other shall we say “less than harmonious rides” some of which I know were very disappointing for the riders who all have worked so hard to get here. It is always a bummer when your horse just gets very wound up for whatever reason but of course here is a really challenging environment and these horses are really fit! Then here are the starts of both Doug and Buck’s tests in the 5 star (on Quantum Leap and Carlevo respectively), plus the changes on the short diagonal from Buck which were rewarded in his score, and their pics exiting. #lrktde

So, I just got back from the #lrk3de and please be patient as I have to do one day at a time. Here is stuff I find interesting from the first day: 1st video is Doug Payne staying in counter canter on Quantum Leap with his mom arriving to coach him. My students always balk at having to ride counter canter through the corners (and it’s not an easy exercise), more on this in my next post. 2nd video has Buck Davidson ride by on Carlevo then Doug’s mom and wife watching them both and they look like they are doing a Pas de Deux for a moment, and the last clip has Buck with his dad the famous Bruce Davidson Sr. walking into the frame to watch him at the end:)

“Bella Chloe” #clydesdaletbcross and “Obi-1” #ottb #thoroughbredincentiveprogram had fun and got slivers of silk and pats/lots of treats with their people (Alison and Elizabeth) at the #longleafhorsetrials yesterday and today! They were also utilizing their various items from #mandmtackshop and their #customsaddlery saddles. Thank you to everyone who helped us both at home and at the horse park💫💫!

I am very proud and pleased to share that both of my long-time students Alison Eyth and Melissa Johnson achieved their final scores to earn their USDF Bronze medals this weekend at the #sportingservicesdressage March Magic Show on 4/2-4/3/23! Alison was riding her lovely Clydesdale/TB cross mare “Bella Chloe”, and Melissa was riding her super #hannoverian gelding “Belissimo Volto”. This is actually the 2nd horse that Melissa has had here at VHF, the first was her chestnut mare “Salsa Roja” who helped her achieve her scores at 1st level and gave her mileage at 2nd level, then Volto who she purchased as a 5 yr. old from #jenniferbaumert, who gave her more education as he progressed and is now on his way to becoming a “schoolmaster”. Both of these women have dedicated many long hours to their equestrian education, as well as being true, kind, and caring horsewomen and Melissa was also very pleased to secure this accomplishment before her upcoming 70th birthday🌠💕. Wahoo and Congrats to you both!!!
